How do I become a volunteer?

Please use the Contact Us form on our homepage to let us know you’re interested. You can also visit our VolunteerMatch page to sign up for a specific volunteering opportunity.

Can I still volunteer if I don’t live in Cambridge?

Yes! BGHO is an international nonprofit, so you can volunteer no matter where you are in the world.

How old do I have to be to volunteer?

While we focus on providing opportunities for elementary to high school students, anyone of any age is welcome to volunteer.

Do I need prior STEM experience?

Not at all! We welcome people of all different experience levels in STEM.

What are my volunteering options?

We have many volunteering options to choose from. You can do research, make art, create social media posts, translate infographics, make educational videos, become a tutor, and more. You’re also free to do as many or as few of these as you’d like. If you have questions about a specific volunteering opportunity or would like to learn more, please reach out using our Contact Us form.

Is there a certain time commitment?

No. You’re free to volunteer whenever you want and can.

Will I receive community service hours for volunteering?

Yes. For the infographic community service hour breakdown, please see the Infographic FAQs below. You will receive a set number of community service hours for other areas of volunteering depending on what they are.

Where is BGHO located?

We are based in both the US and Peru, but BGHO was founded and primarily operates in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Infographic FAQs

What topic should my infographic be about?

As long as it’s a STEM topic, it’s completely up to you! If you can’t think of a topic, reach out to us and we’ll provide you with one.

Do I have to do all three: research, art, and translation?

No. You can do one, two, or all three.

Should I cite my sources?

Yes, always. Giving proper credit to information that isn’t yours is extremely important. Make sure you send us the citations or links to any and all sources you use. This includes text, images, and any other content you don’t own.

Will I receive community service hours?

Yes. The policy for community service hours you will receive is as follows:

  • Research = 30 minutes

  • Art = 1 hour

  • Translation = 1 hour
